WHAT WE DO
AND WHY
We realize you may not think about what happens
to the used water when it leaves your home.
You don’t have to. We do it for you.
The process of proper collection, treatment, and disposal of reclaimed water is vital to the health and safety of communities. At Little Rock Water Reclamation Authority, we ensure that used water and solid waste are safely transported from homes and businesses to a safe destination for treatment.
Reclaimed water is carried through more than 1,400 miles of pipeline to one of our three treatment facilities. The water undergoes a natural cleaning process to exceed water quality standards before being released into the Arkansas River. Returning this water back into a natural water source means we must ensure that it’s safe so that it can continue to serve as a habitat for wildlife, a sustainable water source for industries, and a source of recreation that enhances the quality of life for Arkansans.
The water we release is cleaner than the water in the Arkansas River. As part of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System’s (NPDES) permits, we comply with daily, weekly, and monthly regulatory requirements. NPDES is a federal program, locally overseen by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ). As the largest utility in Arkansas, we work closely with ADEQ to ensure regulatory excellence.
